Since 1981 the Calistoga Massage Therapy School
has offered a comprehensive course in massage therapy emphasizing
Swedish massage. Deep Tissue, Sports, Reflexology and Trigger Point
fundamentals are integrated with the teaching. Our basic program is
designed to instill the necessary skills required to seek employment
in many settings. As a chiropractor and alternative medicine
practitioner, Dr. Ticen has worked with the instructors to develop a
system of massage therapy designed to protect the physical health
and integrity of the massage therapist. This is accomplished by the
proper use of body mechanics in the application of massage
techniques. These techniques are acquired by hands-on instruction
and practice coupled with informative lectures on human anatomy and
physiology. Introductory explanations of intuitive healing and
energy transfer between practitioner and client are included.
Thorough discussions on business practices and ethics prepare
students to function professionally in all settings. The program is
designed t accommodate students with little to moderate experience.
It is also ideal for people who have been practicing for some time
and are now ready to fulfill local requirements for certification.
Instructors work with each student individually and pace each class
according to the students* prior experience and aptitude. We create
a personal, comfortable and effective learning environment that is
both fun and challenging. Though there are no written tests,
students must perform a hands-on final examination with their
instructor. Extensive feedback is exchanged throughout the course to
build the confidence and skills required to obtain employment and/or
develop a private practice upon completion. Upon completion of the Basic 100 hours course and attendance of 100 hours the student will receive a final test
in the form of giving a pass-fail satisfactory massage to the instructor. This massage final can be repeated as
necessary, with the passing of this massage test, a certificate of merit will be granted. Graduation rate is over
85%. Anatomy and Physiology, the student will need to have a passing grade of 75%. The test question will be taken from
NATIONAL BOARD QUESTIONS or study questions for the National Boards. A student may retake the final up to 4 times.
If the student has not passed the final on the 4th time the student will have to retake the entire class or show
outside formal class studies which will aid them in their preparation for passing the final. All other Advance
Courses finals are taken in the form of giving a satisfactory massage/body work to the instructor. We welcome any person
with an earnest interest in learning more about massage therapy.
